The megalithic types present wide varieties within a basic scheme. Dt Chingleput is the home of the rude multiple orthostat dolmenoid cist type with a rugged capstone block, often filled by the cairn heap up to the base of the capstone. Stone circles containing the cairn pack range from about 3 to 37 m in diameter. Affiliated to it is the cairn circle type without a central dolmen and with multiple secondary urn burials. There are urn fields also in this region with secondary interment, e.g. at AMIRTHAMANGALAM.
