### [v1.c9.s17.28](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c9.s17.28)

It is sometimes held that the people responsible for the Indian megaliths were of the Dravidian group as there is a marked overlap between the distributional area of s. Indian megaliths and the Dravidian-speaking people (Fürer-Haimendorf, 1954, and also as in a couple of examples the skulls from ADICHANALLUR appear to belong to these people (Zukerman, 1930). But the evidence is not at all conclusive; claims have also been made that several skulls belong to the Iranian group (Sarkar, 1960). It is therefore possible that the original megalith-builders came to India in two groups—one following the sea-route from the Gulf of Oman to the s.-w. coast of India, and the other following the land-route from Iran to the Vindhyas. Hence the difference between the n. and s. groups of the Indian megaliths.
