During the last decade and a half, i.e. 1965-80, a number of Megalithic stone circle sites have been excavated with significant results including ¹⁴C dates. For instance the site of JUNAPANI was excavated in 1962 by the ASI. The three excavated stone circles gave, besides badly crushed human skeletal remains, micaceous red pottery, a sherd painted in black over a red surface, typical Megalithic black-and-red ware \[11.15.2, 3\] iron objects comprising axes, daggers, spears, lances, horsebits and chisels and copper objects like bells and anklets, along with a few gold-plated objects.
