### [v1.c9.s17.73](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c9.s17.73)

4.17.7 \*S.-e. Deccan\*. The megalithic cultures of the s.-e. Deccan, like those of s. India \[4.17.8-10\], are represented mostly by the funerary monuments of different types and times. Hunt, 1924, estimated the number of cairn burials in the former Nizam’s Dominion as not far short of a million. Unfortunately very little is known about the habitation and material culture of the concerned people. In the lower Krishna and Godavari basins, also rich in megaliths, there are at least four sites—DHARANIKOTA, Nemalipuram and Motadaka in Dt Guntur and KESARAPALLE in Dt Krishna—where habitational deposits have been noticed in close proximity to megaliths. Of these sites limited excavations have been carried out at DHARANIKOTA and KESARAPALLE.
