According to an early report (Boswell, 1872), the cairn circles—the evidence of a double circle is noticed at Motadaka—in the area around AMARAVATI produced 'cinerary urns'. Burnt bones are reported also from the urn burials at RAIGIR and DORNAKAL and stone circles at Motamuree near Hyderabad (Hunt, 1924). But the urns at YELLESWARAM yielded post-excarnation burial. There seem to be two examples of extended inhumation burials at NAGARJUNAKONDA, each belonging to an adult female, two at YELLESWARAM (Khan, 1963) and a few at RAIGIR. Such primary burials and the practice of cremation may suggest contact or else a continuity of earlier trends.
