### [v1.c9.s17.93](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c9.s17.93)

The pottery is of three varieties—all-black ware, black-and-red ware \[11.15.3\] and burnished and coarse red ware. Occasionally the pots are painted in dull glue-like white. Many have post-firing scratches or graffiti of varied types. Small and medium-sized vessels are of all-black ware and black-and-red ware; generally large-sized vessels are of red ware. The principal types are: the shallow dish, hemispherical and tulip-shaped and other bowls, dish-on-stand, cup-on-stand, funnel-shaped lid, conoid, high-necked jar and vase of all-black ware and black-and-red ware; and dish, vase, stand and lid with flanged waist of red ware. All these types are common to the burials and habitations. Large urns and sarcophagi \[12.9\] were exclusively meant for burials. There is some degree of regional variations in the pottery and iron objects. In the passage chambers the red ware, particularly vases with collared rims and lids with flanged waist, are prominent, but in the Hallur region the all-black ware and black-and-red ware, especially the hemispherical and concave-sided, carinated bowl and vase, are predominant. In the Maski-Sanganakallu-Brahmagiri area the black-and-red ware and red ware occur more or less in equal proportions. Further, pottery with graffiti occurs scarcely in the passage chambers, moderately at sites in the Maski-Brahmagiri area and profusely in the T. Narsipur area.
