The habitations of the historical period at Maheshwar—though there was also evidence of earlier Chalcolithic \[4.14.5\] habitations—could be divided into four Pds. The early historical Pd I habitations were evidenced by the occurrence of the NBPW, early cast coins and punch-marked coins \[3.1\] and remains of a \*stūpa\* at NAVDATOLI on the opposite bank, which was destroyed by floods. This Pd has been dated from 400 to 100 B.C.
