### [v1.c9.s6.31](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.ghosh-1989.v1.c9.s6.31)

The recent excavations at the Spirit Cave in n.-e. Thailand, suggesting a more advanced and discriminating stage in food-gathering (\*c.\* 9000 B.C.) rather than domestication (Chang, 1970; Solheim, 1971), and at Gua Kechil, Pahang in peninsular S.-E. Asia and at various sites in Greece (\*c.\* 6000 B.C.), and the Near E., including Ghar-i-Mar in Afghanistan (\*c.\* 7000 B.C.) have challenged the primacy of the 'Neolithic revolution' and the restrictive aspect of such a concept. It now becomes possible that there were several Neolithic revolutions in the Old World, independent of each other and occurring at different periods.
