\*Punjab (Pakistan) and Sind\*. Wheeler’s discovery in 1946 of an occupational deposit underlying the mud-brick defences of Harappa yielded 30 potsherds, most of them of red, dull or pale red ware, some of them having a straight neck or everted rim (Wheeler in \*AI\*, 3, 1947). There is a thick band of black paint on the neck. Some sherds have multiple grooves. The pottery forms include the vase, straight-sided bowl, large basin, ring-stand and cylindrical cup. Similar sherds occurred in the mud bricks of the defences also, evidently an unintentional collection by the builders of the defences.
