The pre-Harappa pottery \[11.2\] of KALIBANGAN has been classified by Thapar into six fabrics: Fabric A, the most commonly used pottery, wheelmade, having irregular striation, carelessly potted, paintings in black and white, criss-cross moustache-like bifold designs, etc.; Fabric B, wheelmade, treated up to the shoulder with red slip and the lower area while wet covered by a thin clayey solution and roughened by horizontal or wavy combing; Fabric C, a fine-textured pottery painted with naturalistic designs, nearer to the Harappa Ware \[11.3\]; Fabric D, a red ware with sharp incised designs; and Fabrics E and F distinguished essentially by surface treatment, Fabric E being buff and Fabric F grey.
