The skeletal remains \[15.2\] recovered from these burials throw some light on the racial composition of the Indus people. They included variously the Mediterraneans, Proto-Australoids, Alpines and even Mongoloids. Such a cosmopolitan character seems to be quite in keeping with the urbanized Indus settlements: whereas the Mediterraneans and Alpines may have originally come from the w. The Proto-Australoids seem to have been autochthonous. The Mongoloids, accounting for a smaller number, evidently descended from the hilly regions.
