### [v1.c23.64](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.malalasekera-1937.v1.c23.64)

The Sutta Nipāta Commentary³ seems to explain Dakkhiṇāpatha as the road leading to the Dakkhiṇajanapada, while the Sumaṅgala-Vilāsinī⁴ takes Dakkhiṇāpatha to be synonymous with Dakkhiṇajanapada and says that it was the district (janapada) south of the Ganges (Gaṅgāya dakkhiṇato pākaṭajanapadam).
