### [v2.c8.271](https://indike.org/pramana/ins.reference.mehta-chandra-1970.v2.c8.271)

Bahuraya ( Bahurata ) A doctrine propounded by Jamāli(1), the first Niṇhava in the time of Titthayara Mahāvīra. It holds that an act takes many a moment for its performance. It is not performed in one moment. In other words, whatever is being done at a particular moment cannot be regarded as done at that very moment. When it is done i.e. completed after the lapse of many a moment, it is taken as done. Or, since this view is held by many beings, it is known by this name.¹ This doctrine came into being at Sāvatthī after the lapse of fourteen years of Titthayara Mahāvīra's obtaining omniscience.²
