The ancient system of Indian medicine is termed Ayurveda (Gavyāyurveda for cattle, Hasthyāyurveda for elephants and Aśvāyurveda for equines). It is confined within the limits of Tridoṣa theory of physiopathology (Vāta, Pitta and Kapha) and Pañcaśīla theory of pharmacy (five principles of matter/drugs viz Rasa, Guṇa, Vīrya, Vipāka and Prabhāva) (Sircar, 1982), and these concepts are still require to be updated in current timeframe.
