Śivadāsa, son of Nārada, a resident of the city of Benares, wrote a commentary on the \*Mānava Śulba\*. His younger brother, Śaṅkarabhaṭṭa is the commentator of \*Maitrāyaṇīya Śulba\*. Both the brothers quote from Rāma Vājapeya, who is no other than the commentator of the \*Kātyāyana Śulba\*. Śivadāsa has quoted the second Bhāskara's (1150 A.D.) \*Rule of Three\*, and also from his \*Līlāvatī\*, by name. He must have been posterior to the celebrated Sāyaṇa (1320-1380 A.D.) whom he quotes.
