The author and his date

v3.c44.t1.1

Ānandabhāratī's name informs us that he was a monk of the Daśanāmī order.⁶ Both Ānandabhāratī and his teacher Nṛsiṃhabhāratī are called paramahaṃsaparivrājakācārya.⁷

v3.c44.t1.2

The period in which Ānandabhāratī lived is elucidated by the references to the Rasaratnākara, dating from the first half of the fifteenth century, and the date of one of the BORI MSS of the Ānandamālā, A.D. 1660.⁸ Nṛsiṃhabhāratī, the guru of Ānandabhāratī, has tentatively been identified by P.K. Gode⁹ as the person of that name who was also the preceptor of Durvāsabhāratī¹⁰ and Viśvarūpabhāratī.¹¹ Nṛsiṃhabhāratī can be assigned to the period 1475–1550, which establishes that Ānandabhāratī must have written his work in the earlier part of the sixteenth century.
