The author introduces himself in the granthākaraparicaya, appended to chapter five. His name is Viśvanātha Śarman, of a brāhmaṇa Dvivedin family, of Vatsagotra. His parents are Pārvatī Devī and Hanumān, who lived in the village Duvauliyā in the Naravanamandala, in the vicinity of Kāśī.¹⁴⁷
