The following authors of \*jātaka\* works seem to have written in the fourth or fifth century since they were quoted in the sixth by Varāhamihira: Maya,⁸ Yavana, Maṇittha⁹ (Μανέθων), and Śaktipūrva (Parāśara)¹⁰ are cited on the maximum length of human life (BJ 7, 1); on the same subject of \*āyurdāya\* he cites Devasvāmin,¹¹ Viṣṇugupta (Cāṇakya¹²), and Siddhasena (BJ 7, 7); and Jīvaśarman¹³ is mentioned concerning \*āyurdāya\* (BJ 7, 9) and \*rājayogas\* (BJ 11, 1). Also earlier than Varāhamihira was a \*jātaka\* work by Bādarāyaṇa,¹⁴ though it is not clear whether or not the extant \*Bhāvādhyāya\*¹⁵ was a part of this, and another by Māṇḍavya.¹⁶
