v1.c1.10
THE second edition of this work, which had a very favourable reception at the hands of orientalists and others, contains some important additional matter which shows clearly that the sciences of chemistry and medicine were developed earlier among the Hindus than among the Greeks. The book contains copious quotations from Sanskrit texts, and the author has collected valuable information from rare manuscripts relating to the origin of Hindu chemistry. The book is one which hardly appeals to the general student of chemical history, but at the same time the author's acquaintance with scientific knowledge among the Hindus is probably unique, and his book will command the attention of all who are making a special study of the early history of the science.
