According to current tradition, Keralācārya hailed from Trichur in Central Kerala and belonged to the Kāśyapagotra. It is also said that he was a minister of King Rāma Varmā who ruled in Kerala from 1108-32. He wrote on Jyotiṣa, Āyurveda and Tantra. His works on Jyotiṣa included \*Kerala-saṃhitā\*, \*Kerala-nāḍigrantha\*, \*Keralīyapraśnamārga\* and \*Keralapraśnasāra\*. However, as observed earlier, these works must, obviously, be non-Keralite treatises based on Keralite teachings attributed to Keralācārya.¹
