Vādas in Kāvya Literature
c10.s9.1
*Vāda* manifests in some of the hymns of *Ṛgveda*. The hymns related to dialogues of Purūravas and Urvaśī, Agastya and Lopāmudrā as well as Yama and Yamī are particularly characterized as debate on a particular issue.
c10.s9.2
*Vāda* traditions were captured through fascinating imageries, tales and episodes in the whole literary tradition of India. Besides the description of debates that actually occurred, the two great epics — *Rāmāyaṇa* and *Mahābhārata* — incorporate a number of debates and dialogues within the main theme of their story involving perennial questions on social, political, moral or ethical issues (see Chap. 2).
