mado janayati prītiṃ sānaṅgaṃ mānabhaṅguram
sa priyāsaṃgamotkaṇṭhāṃ sāsahyāṃ manasaḥ śucam //
Intoxication produces delight; that [delight produces] love that shatters pride; / that [love produces] longing for union with the beloved; that [longing produces] unbearable grief of the mind.
