hasantam aparaṃ dṛṣṭvāvibhāvaḥ copajāyate/
yo 'sau hāsyarasas tajjñaiḥ parasthaḥ parikīrtitaḥ//

“Having seen another laughing, [where] the determinant is not [present], / that which arises as comic sentiment is proclaimed by the knowers of it as existing in another.”
