atra prathamārdhe kṣudra-kapi-viṣaye dayā, uttarārdhe rāma-viṣayā spardhā cendrajitaḥ pratīyate | śaurye sattva-sāraḥ | utsāhaḥ sthairyam | dakṣatā kṣipra-kāritvam | eṣāṃ nāyaka-guṇa-nirūpaṇāvasara evodāharaṇāni darśitāni |

Here, in the first half, compassion toward the petty monkeys is understood, and in the second half, Indrajit's rivalry toward Rāma. In heroism is the essence of sattva. Energetic zeal is firmness. Competence is promptness in action. Illustrations of these have already been shown on the occasion of describing the hero’s qualities.
