atha mādhuryam-
tan mādhuryaṃ bhaved yatra śabde' rthe ca sphuṭo rasaḥ ||

Now, sweetness [mādhurya]:
That is sweetness wherein aesthetic sentiment is manifest in both word and meaning.

yathā utphulla-gaṇḍa-yugam [ku. 3.4] ity atra śabdārthayoḥ śṛṅgāra-parivāhitvena mādhuryam |

As in “Both blossoming cheeks” [Kumārasambhava 3.4], here there is sweetness because the word and meaning overflow with the erotic sentiment.
