“Conversation” [vārtā] means a dialogue preceded by inquiries after welfare. An example therein is as follows:
“By your foot-water, washed clean and cool as the rays of the new moon,
even the submarine fire, though continually tearing at my vitals, has, as it were, been quenched.”
1.435.p1
atra brāhmaṇa-pādodakasya santāpa-śamana-rūpāṃ laukikīṃ sthitim anullaṅghyaiva samudreṇa munīnāṃ purataḥ saṅkathanāt kāntiḥ |
Here, without transgressing the worldly convention that water from a Brahmin’s feet allays burning fever, the ocean speaks before the sages; hence there is radiance.
