sāttvikādyair abhinayaiḥ prekṣakāṇāṃ yato bhavet |
naṭe nāyaka-tādātmya-buddhis tan nāṭyam ucyate ||
Because through representations—involuntary physical reactions and the rest—spectators / come to perceive the actor as identical with the hero, that is called drama.
