To explain: deceit, which has the form of deceiving others, is subsumed under dissimulation characterised by crookedness. Affection, characterized by melting of the heart, is subsumed under joy. Jealousy, which has the form of intolerance toward gifts, honors, and so forth, directed toward oneself, is subsumed under indignation; but when directed toward another, it is subsumed under envy. Agitation is subsumed appropriately under despair, dejection, and so forth. Such matters are to be understood. And likewise, the author of the Bhāvaprakāśikā says:
“If there should be other emotions as well, arising from particular mental states,
the subsumption of all of them into the transitory emotional states is to be recognized.”
