Rasarnavasudhakara 2.23

atha (3) dainyam-
hṛt-tāpa-durgatatvādyair anauddhatyaṃ hi dīnatā | 13
tatrānubhāvā mālinya-gātra-stambhādayo matāḥ ||

Now (3) wretchedness:
Lack of pride caused by heartache, destitution, and the like is indeed wretchedness (13).
Its consequents in this case are held to be slovenliness, paralysis of the limbs, and so on.
