As in the Karuṇākandala:
"His body at once set ablaze a hundredfold by the destruction of his family,
frequently displaying tears, sighs, and a pale complexion,
accompanied by slack limbs, blank and repeatedly failed senses,
the lord of the Yadus exhibits exhaustion like the pathetic sentiment embodied."

atra bandhu-vyāpatti-janito vasudevasya śoko bandhu-guṇa-smaraṇādibhir uddīpito mlānatvendriya-śūnyatvādi-sūcitair dainya-moha-glānyādi-sañcāribhiḥ prapañcito muhur bāṣpa-śvāsa-malina-mukha-rāgādibhir anubhāvair abhivyaktaḥ karuṇatvam āpadyate |

Here, the grief of Vasudeva produced by the destruction of his kinsmen, stimulated by remembering the virtues of his relatives and the like, amplified by transitory states such as dejection, delusion, and exhaustion indicated by pallor, emptiness of the sense organs, and the like, and manifested by consequents such as frequent tears, sighing, and pale facial complexion, arrives at the state of the pathetic sentiment.
