raudrādbhutāv ubhau hāsya-karuṇau prakṛti-dviṣau ||
Now, the exposition of mutually opposed aesthetic sentiments:
The erotic and the odious sentiments, the heroic and the fearful sentiments,
the furious and the marvelous sentiments, and the comic and the pathetic sentiments are natural enemies. (259)
