atha sva-jāti-yogyair dharmaiḥ kāriṇāṃ kariṇīṃ prati (dadau saraḥ paṅkaja ity ādi (ku.saṃ. 3.37) padye iva) vibhāvatvam iti cen, na | tasyāṃ kakṣyāyāṃ kariṇāṃ kariṇī-rāgaṃ prati kāraṇatvaṃ na punar vibhāvatvam |

Now, if it is argued that by means of properties appropriate to their own kind, male elephants possess determinant-hood with respect to a female elephant (as in the verse "He offered the lotus of the lake..." [Kumārasambhava 3.37] and so on), that is not so. At that level, there is causality with respect to the female elephant's passion for the male elephant, but not determinant-hood.
