krūra-kramā kim api rākṣasa-jātir ekā
tatrāpi kārya-parateti mayi prakarṣaḥ |
rāmeṇa tu pravasatā pitur ājñayaiva
bāṣpāmbhasām aham apīha kṛto rasajñaḥ ||

The race of rākṣasas is uniquely of cruel conduct in every way,
and even in that, extreme dedication to my mission was prominent in me;
yet by Rāma, who was going into exile solely on his father's command,
even I was made a connoisseur of the waters of tears in this world!"
