atra santaḥ parīkṣety anena sva-kṛteḥ parīkṣaṇa-kṣamatva-kalpito nija-garvaḥ kāli-dāsena vivakṣita iti tasyodāttatvam |

Here, by the phrase "the discerning, having tested," Kālidāsa intends his own pride founded on the capacity of his work to undergo critical examination; hence his noble character.
