yathā mālatī-mādhave-
ye nāma kecid iha naḥ prathayanty avajñāṃ
jānanti te kim api tān prati naiṣa yatnaḥ |
utpatsyate' sti mama ko' pi samāna-dharmā
kālo hy ayaṃ niravadhir vipulā ca pṛthvī ||

As in the Mālatīmādhava:
Whoever they are that disseminate disdain toward us in this world,
do they know anything? This effort of ours is not for them;
someone of equal nature will be born or already exists,
for time is endless and the earth is vast.

3.328.p2

atra jānanti te kim apīti parāpavādāt mama tu ko' pi samāna-dharmety ātmotkarṣa-kathanāc ca bhavabhūter uddhatatvam |

Here, Bhavabhūti's haughtiness arises from censuring others in "Do they know anything?" and from proclaiming his own superiority in "Someone of equal nature... exists for me."
