yathā rāmānande-
guṇo na kaścin mama vāṅ-nibandhe
labhyeta yatnena gaveṣito' pi |
tathāpy amuṃ rāma-kathā-prabandhaṃ
santo' nurāgeṇa samādriyante ||
As in the Rāmānanda:
No merit would be found in my verbal composition,
even if sought with effort;
nevertheless, the virtuous treat this narrative of Rāma
with affection and respect.

atra vinayotkarṣād apakarṣam ātmany āropayann ayaṃ kavir vinīta ity ucyate |
Here, attributing inferiority to himself out of an abundance of modesty, this poet is called modest.
