jñātaṃ jñātaṃ parihasasi māṃ bhāṣitair bhāva-garbhair
maivaṃ vācyaṃ tvam asi hi gurus tatra ceṣṭiḥ pramāṇam ||
As in the Vīrabhadravijṛmbhaṇa:
“You are a master of dance through the grace of friends like you!
Ah, what is this weary toil of singing? Your throat has become cracked today!”
“Understood, understood! You mock me with words pregnant with hidden meaning!”
“Do not speak thus! For you are the teacher; your deed is the standard in this matter.”
3.367.p1
atra naṭa-sūtradhārayor anyathārthasyānyonya-stotrasya hāsyāyaiva pravṛttatvāt prapañcaḥ |
Here, because the mutual praise of the actor and the stage manager, which actually has a contrary meaning, proceeds solely to create laughter, it is deceitful banter (prapañca).
