2.338

If fear produced by a cause is not accepted even for a superior character:
“When Kubera fled, the sun wavered, the moon became alarmed,
Viṣṇu's pride was blunted, Indra ran away, and Yama's splendor faded;
when Brahmā in the sky cried for help, raising a single hand aloft,
may Nīlakaṇṭha protect you, who playfully swallowed the kālakūṭa poison in an instant!”

2.338.p1

In this verse, how could one deny the fear belonging to Kubera, the sun, and the others, proclaimed by their flight, wavering, and so on? And if that were denied, since the swallowing of the kālakūṭa poison would then be an easy feat, how could the preeminence of Nīlakaṇṭha's power, whose sole essence lies in accomplishing that task, raise its head?
