atha tripādamardhaṃ vā pādaṃ vā nirgamaṃ nyaset
āliṅgapādabāhyasya nimnamevaṃ tu kārayet

Then one should place a projection of three-fourths, or one-half, or one-fourth. / One should thus make the recess of the exterior of the aliṅga-band.
