matsyapurāṇaviṣṇudharmottarayoḥ|
devatāyā vikāreṣu śrutiṃ vetti purohitaḥ|
devatānāṃ tu gatvā'pi snānamācchādya bhūṣayet||
In the Matsyapurāṇa and the Viṣṇudharmottara:
When there are unnatural changes in a deity, the royal priest who knows the Veda, / going to the deities, having bathed and covered [the image], should adorn it.
