Chapter on True Motion.
Hindi commentary: Regarding the position of the fixed karaṇas, Brahmagupta also speaks in this very manner. His words are these: "Śakuni is at the end of the fourteenth of the dark fortnight; Catuṣpada is in the first [half] of the conjunction," and so forth.
Accepting this, and in accordance with this, teacher Lalla also says: "When the Moon is of slender body, on the fourteenth, in its latter portion, that [karaṇa] indeed named Śakuni arises," and so forth.
Bhāskarācārya, by "from Śakuni in the half of the dark fourteenth...", considers the three karaṇas remaining after the [first] half of the dark fourteenth, and the fourth karaṇa in the first half of the first lunar day, to be the karaṇas belonging to Śakuni: "Śakuni, Catuṣpada, Nāga, Kiṃstughna". In the Sūryasiddhānta:
"... Śakuni, Nāga, and the third is Catuṣpada; Kiṃstughna [follows] from the latter half of the dark fourteenth." By this, they state the Nāga karaṇa to be in the first half of the new moon, and the Catuṣpada karaṇa in the latter half; but there is a discrepancy in the prior-posterior order of those two karaṇas. Therefore, in the Sudhāvarṣiṇī commentary: "According to the opinion of almost all teachers, the Brāhma order is correct. Hence, first Śakuni karaṇa, second Catuṣpada, third Nāga—this should be supplied. These have been written inversely. Śrīpati too has written following the Brāhma order alone." (12)
