nāgrivarṇasvarā grāhmā vargāṇāṃ varṇasaṃkhyayā |
piṇḍitāḥ pañcabhirbhaktāḥ śeṣaṃ jīvasvaraṃ viduḥ ||
One should take the vowels and consonants in a name according to the numerical value of the phonemes of the classes;
Summed together and divided by five, the remainder is known as the life-sound.
