ādya tithau trayo varṇā dvau dvau vai śeṣayāṃryadi ||
evaṃ tithitraye jñeyā varṇasaṃkhyā tithisvare ||
On the first lunar day there are three phonemes, and two each on the remaining ones; / in this manner, the number of phonemes should be known across the three lunar days in the tithi-sound [scheme].
