kleśīsamatasaḥ krūro niṣkarmo vikalendriyaḥ ||
sarvakāryālaso duṣṭo janmarkṣaspa mṛtodaye ||
Distressed, cruel, indolent, defective in the sense-faculties, / lazy in all undertakings, and wicked is one [born] at the rising of the dead of the birth asterism.

janmarkṣe iti | janmarkṣe janmanakṣatre yo janmapādo janmanakṣatracaraṇā tadvarṇe arthānnakṣatracaraṇe yokṣaraḥ tadvaśe yo svarastadvarṇasvaraḥ tathā janmasamaye yo nāḍīsvaraḥ tasmin bālādisaṃjñā sthāpanīyā
On [the verse beginning with] 'in the birth asterism': In the birth asterism, which is the natal lunar mansion, whichever is the birth quarter, namely the quarter of the birth asterism, in the phoneme of that—meaning, whichever syllable is in that quarter of the asterism—the sound that is according to it is the sound of that phoneme; likewise, whichever is the nāḍī sound at the time of birth, the designation of infant and so on is to be applied to it.
