9.10

valmīkasthāṇugulmatṛṇatarumathanaḥ svecchayā hṛṣṭadṛṣṭir
yāyād yātrānulomaṃ tvaritapadagatir vaktram unnamya coccaiḥ/
kakṣāsannāhakāle janayati sumahacchīkaraṃ vṛhaṃte vā
tatkālaṃ vā madāptau jayakṛd atha radaṃ veṣṭayan dakṣiṇaṃ ca//

Crushing ant-hills, tree-stumps, thickets, grass, and trees at will, with a delighted glance, / if it should march in the direction of the military expedition with swift steps, raising its face high, / or if it produces a massive spray of droplets at the time of fastening its girth, or trumpets / at that moment, or upon coming into musth, or wrapping its trunk around its right tusk, it brings victory.
