13.37

「阿難!我以此緣,知利由求,因求有利,我所說者,義在於此。阿難!因愛有求,此為何義?若使一切眾生無有愛者,寧有求不?」

“Ānanda, it’s for this reason that we know profit comes from seeking. ‘Profit exists conditioned by seeking.’ That’s the meaning of what I said.

Charles Patton, The Long Discourses (selected sūtras)

He also told Ānanda, “‘Seeking exists conditioned by craving.’ What does this mean? Suppose that no sentient being had any craving. Would there be seeking?”

Charles Patton, The Long Discourses (selected sūtras)
