The Long Āgama Sūtra 13.9

13.9

又告阿難：「緣有有生，此為何義？若使一切眾生無有欲有、色無色有者，寧有生不？」

He also told Ānanda, “‘Birth exists conditioned by existence.’ What does this mean? Suppose that no sentient being had any existence in the desire realm or in the form or formless realms. Would there be birth?”
