The Long Āgama Sūtra 2.14

2.14

「阿難！若能爾者，長幼和順，轉更增盛，其國久安，無能侵損。阿難！汝聞跋祇國人孝事父母，敬順師長不？」

“Ānanda, if they do that, then the elders and the youth will be in accord, and that’ll make them flourish. Their country will be safe for a long time. They’ll be impossible to conquer.

“Ānanda, have you heard that the people of Vṛji are dutiful to their parents and respectfully follow their teachers and elders?”
