The Long Āgama Sūtra 23.81

23.81

佛去未久，時，究羅檀頭婆羅門得病命終。時，眾多比丘聞究羅檀頭供養佛七日，佛去未久，得病命終，即自念言：「彼人命終，當何所趣？」時，諸比丘詣世尊所，頭面禮足，於一面坐。「彼究羅檀頭今者命終，當生何所？」

It wasn’t long after the Buddha departed that Kūṭatāṇḍya became ill, and his life ended.

A group of monks heard that Kūṭatāṇḍya had supported the Buddha for seven days and then fell ill and died not long afterward. They thought to themselves, “That man’s life has ended, but where did he go?”

Those monks went to the Buddha, bowed their heads at his feet, and sat to one side. They asked, “Now that Kūṭatāṇḍya ’s life has ended, where will he be born?”
