23.21
"Furthermore, when the śramaṇa Gautama first left the household, his parents and relatives wept in yearning and grief. Since he possesses this attribute, I should go to him; he should not come. Furthermore, the śramaṇa Gautama left the household in his youth, renouncing fine adornments, elephants, horses, precious carriages, the five desires, and necklaces of jewels. Since he possesses this attribute, I should go to him; he should not come. Furthermore, the śramaṇa Gautama renounced the status of a wheel-turning king to leave the household and cultivate the Way; had he remained a householder, he would have ruled as king over the four continents, governing the people and things, and we would all have been his subjects. Since he possesses this attribute, I should go to him; he should not come."
